Fin-Nor Marquesa Reels

Posted by Editor On February - 16 - 2010

It probably hasn't escaped your notice that there's a bit of a revolution going on in the boat multiplier market. A new breed of smaller, faster, tougher lever-drag reels specifically built for braid. First was the excellent Avet range, followed this year by the Shimano Talica and Daiwa Saltist Lever Drags.

A reel that may have escaped your attention in this new category is the Fin-Nor Marquesa. Fin-Nor used to be leader in big game fishing reels around the world but in recent years has handed down the mantel. With the Marquesa, Fin-Nor aim to once again take on the giants like Shimano's well regarded Torsa.

The Marquesa features a forged and fully machined frame, side plate and spool, and a carbon-fibre drag system offering more than 30-pounds of drag pressure on the larger models. The reels come in four sizes and six models - four with open frames and an additional two with enclosed frames offering increased strength and line control. All models sport a spritely 6.1 to 1 gear ratio and centrifugal braking, aimed at 'pitching' live baits and other foreign fishing methods. Line capacities range from 270 yards of 50-pound braid on the smallest MA12 to 670 yards of 50-pound braid on the MA30T. The weight of the reels range from 20 to 27.4 ounces. The 12 and 16 size reels appear to be best suited to UK fishing.

Fin-Nor does have a European distributor in the form of Zebco Europe but at this stage we are unsure whether the Marquesa will be available to the UK market. If you would like to contact Zebco Europe directly their contact details can be found here: Zebco Sports Europe

In the meantime, if you can't wait you can purchase the full range of Fin-Nor Marquesa from Bass Pro Shops in the US. Their prices are competitive and their international service can be trusted.
