Tuf-Line / Snowbee – T&G Show [part 2]

Posted by Editor On October - 24 - 2009

One of the most attractive stands at the show, and as ever filled with quality products was that of Snowbee. 2009 has proved to be the best year yet for Snowbee's 25 years in business. The success is reported to be due to ranging quality, innovative products that are sensibly priced and supported by great service and supply.

Amongst the huge array of first class fly fishing equipment on offer was a big star of the future in the UK - perhaps even a bit understated - Tuf-Line braid line.

Tuf-Line superlines are manufactured by Western Filaments in the US. They already have quite a following in other parts of the world but haven't really been promoted all that heavily here in the UK. Snowbee have picked up the UK and Irish distribution after losing Power Pro when the manufacturer, Innovative Textiles was gobbled up by Shimano earlier this year. Although Snowbee picking up Tuf-Line was as a direct result of losing Power Pro their statement says it all, "We thought we had used the best, until we came across Tuf-Line... It's amazing!" Video: 2010 ABU Garcia Reels & Berkley Line

Posted by Editor On October - 10 - 2009

In this video from James Robbins, Product Development Manager for both ABU Garcia and Berkley we get a snap shot of some of the new products to be launched by the two tackle giants in the coming season.

First up is an old favourite brought right up to date. The Premier 706 closed-face reel takes its pedigree from the ABU 506's and 507's of yesteryear. Size is similar, but there's a whole host of improvements that look to make this a new favourite in seasons to come. Read the rest of this entry »

Shimano Baby Baitrunners win Coarse Fishing Award

Posted by Editor On October - 9 - 2009

It didn't take long! Just moments after Shimano's 2010 catalogue had arrived, the new 'Baby Baitrunners' have already won their first award.

UK publication, Improve Your Coarse Fishing has awarded the new, smaller-than-ever baitrunners their 'Product of the Month' award citing the new design as revolutionary for some areas of the sport.

Dave Woodmansey, Deputy Editor of Improve Your Coarse Fishing commented ‘These reels are absolutely cock-on for commercial carp work where ‘lumps’ regularly rip rods off rests, or for specialist barbel, chub, tench, and bream fishing, or lightweight roving.’ Read the rest of this entry »

Tackle Discoveries in Greece

Posted by Editor On October - 4 - 2009

Those of you that follow my Twitter posts (Tweets) will know that I have just returned from a break in Corfu, Greece. As ever, a highlight for me in any trip abroad is a visit to a Tackle Shop - in this case I visited a couple of stores in Corfu Town.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of kit on offer. In terms of lures there were the expected brands like Rapala and Yo-Zuri, but also Lucky Craft, Smith and Shimano Butterfly Jigs. I also found a Ryobi Safari big game fixed spool which really is top-flight tackle. Rod choice on the other hand was a bit limited where I looked.

I had one item on my shopping list and I'm glad to say I got what I wanted. I've been attracted by a new type of jigging, originating in Japan. I'm not actually sure what the official name for it is yet but Shimano's range of suited lures is named 'Lucanus'. There are also ranges from Daiwa (Conch Jigs) amongst others. The only kind I'd managed to purchase in the UK was a Yabai Jig from Williamson - set me back a pretty penny too (£9). In Corfu I managed to purchase one of these jigs from a brand I've never come across before now - Alpha Tackles - the packaging says they are Japan made. I'm not so sure the quality is up to that but either way I was happy with a 100g version for 7 Euro. The model is a 'Sea Grand - Salty Rubber Jig'. I'll hopefully report how these perform next season. Read the rest of this entry »
