New Daiwa Certate for 2010

Posted by Editor On February - 20 - 2010

2010 is already proving to be a great year for exciting new fishing tackle. The latest in a growing list of hot tackle items to be launched this year is news that Daiwa have created a brand new Certate - one of the best spinning reels in the world.

Best news of all is that Daiwa haven't just rehashed the existing design but created something brand new with some amazing new features. First up, something called 'Mag Sealed'. This new feature is straight out of sci-fi. Based on NASA technology, Daiwa have capitalised on a new material - magnetic fluid. Used for fuel management in space ships, Daiwa have adapted this latest technology as a waterproofing agent. The Read the rest of this entry »

Fin-Nor Marquesa Reels

Posted by Editor On February - 16 - 2010

It probably hasn't escaped your notice that there's a bit of a revolution going on in the boat multiplier market. A new breed of smaller, faster, tougher lever-drag reels specifically built for braid. First was the excellent Avet range, followed this year by the Shimano Talica and Daiwa Saltist Lever Drags.

A reel that may have escaped your attention in this new category is the Fin-Nor Marquesa. Fin-Nor used to be leader in big game fishing reels around the world but in recent years has handed down the mantel. With the Marquesa, Fin-Nor aim to once again take on the giants like Shimano's well regarded Torsa. Read the rest of this entry »

The Big One Fishing Show 2010

Posted by Editor On February - 10 - 2010

Following on from their success in 2009, The Big One fishing show returns to Farnborough in 2010 over two days - 20th & 21st February. A huge number of fishing tackle manufacturers and tackle retailers will be present at the show as well as a few celebrities including; Keith Arthur (Talk Sport / Tight Lines), Bob Nudd (4 times Match World Champion) and Korda's Danny Fairbrass.

Exhibitors confirmed for the event include: Maver, Browning, Used Tackle, Tubertini, Trakker, Sonik, Fox, Tony's Tackle, Korda, Nash & many, many more.

The Big One has grown to be an unexpected hit over the years with many stall holders attending this event and choosing not to endure the large costs associated with shows like the Go Fishing Show at Birmingham's NEC. It's great to see a show like this grow in popularity by following a formula lead Read the rest of this entry »

Daiwa Catalogue 2010 – Daiwa Reels [part 1]

Posted by Editor On January - 8 - 2010

A copy of Daiwa's UK 2010 fishing tackle catalogue arrived this morning, much to my delight. For the benefit of those who haven't received one yet I thought I'd walk you through it - starting with 2010 reels.

In terms of reel technology there doesn't appear to be an awful lot of new development for 2010. That's not to say that Daiwa have rested on their laurels this year, but it just appears that they have concentrated on applying their superb, existing technologies further down the range. In summary, there aren't any new developments at the top of the tree, but with the likes of Zaion, Real Four, DIGIGEAR and the QD drag already in the lineup, we're already spoilt. A good example of existing technology filtering down through the range this year is the addition of the excellent High Impact Line Clip (HIP Clip) to smaller fixed spools and away from the exclusivity of the bigger carp reels. For those that don't know, this ingenious line clip on the spool features a braid and mono friendly collar behind the clip so it can be used safely as a distance control without the fear of damaging line. It finds its way from the top-flight BASIAIR onto the replacement for the ever popular TD-R Match & Feeder reels - the new TD-X range. This new addition should go down a storm. Italian Lure Manufacturer Molix sets sights on US Market

Posted by Editor On January - 6 - 2010

Although Molix is not a brand all too familiar here in the UK it is one I am familiar with. You can't help but notice their first-class lures if you pick up a European fishing magazine like 'Loup & Bar' in France or 'PescaMar' in Spain. The French especially are Sea Bass fanatics and they've certainly been bitten by the 'cooler' side of sea angling - including the tackle. There's an obsession for quality lures but they're not entirely reliant on Japanese brands, with a keen eye for European brands. Molix are one of those brands. I'm not sure why the tiny English channel proves to be such an obstacle in the United Kingdom - I for one look forward to the influx of quality European fishing tackle, especially the lures.
