2012 Abel Fishing Reels & Accessories

Posted by Editor On October - 11 - 2011

Abel fishing reels and their growing range of accessories are among the most lustful items of fishing tackle available. Whether you're a fly fisher or not, there's no denying the quality and beauty that oozes out of every item they make.

Take 2012, for example. Abel have released two new reels, one for Spey, one Switch, both in a new (for them), old-school, classical design. There's a new reel finish by Montana artist Derek DeYoung, plus two of the most adorable fishing accessories I think I have ever seen - the Abelight flashlight/torch and the Abel Nippers, both available in a multitude of jaw-dropping finishes.

2012 Shimano Baitrunner LC XTA – Big & Medium

Posted by Editor On September - 30 - 2011

Shimano Baitrunner XTA LC AdvertShimano's advert for the new Baitrunner LC says, 'Legend Reborn' and while normally we'd take this kind of advertising with a pinch of salt, in this case I tend to agree that the big Baitrunner Long Cast is a legendary fishing reel.  The 'Big Baitrunner' has been landing big fish for over 15 years. In Shimano's reel portfolio it sits alongside other iconic greats such as the TLD lever drag reels.

2012 is a special year as Shimano have chosen to bring this old timer right up to date. Perhaps even more importantly the redesign brings with it a new size - Medium - that I'm sure will be very well received all around the world - in most countries angling equipment is getting smaller and lighter as tackle gets stronger and better designed, while anglers become more sporting in the quest to have some fun Read the rest of this entry »

Jacks LRF Ultralight Lures

Posted by Editor On September - 6 - 2011

Jacks LRF Blok HedWe've talked about the recent uprising of specialist lure fishing shops before now, but I wanted to highlight one in particular - 'Jacks LRF'.

I want to call Jacks LRF a 'cottage industry' type of business - I'm hoping neither Andy or Jack take offense at that. You see with Jacks LRF there's a level of interest in ultralight lures that's above the norm. The service is fantastic and friendly, and I can get unique, quality lures that I can't obtain anywhere else. It's specialist Read the rest of this entry »

iTackle Magazine from Bauer

Posted by Editor On September - 1 - 2011

iTackle MagazinePublishing giant, Bauer have just released a new digital magazine on fishing tackle - and what's more - it's free!

iTackle magazine comes from the makers of Angling Times and being digital offers the fisherman much more in terms of a tackle review than traditional press.

The pilot issue of iTackle is out now (get it here) and features Shimano's new Aero Technium Mgs carp reel that we featured last month, as well as the new Middy 14.5m MTDI Shock Core Fusion XP45 pole and the feature-packed Nordik Tackle Octbox Mk2 seatbox.

We wish Bauer all the best with iTackle. We like it a lot. The oscillation rate demonstration on the Mgs is fantastic.
